Meet Enzo... Enzo was hit by a car just outside of his house in the run up to Christmas last year. Enzo had devastating injuries; a crushed pelvis resulting in nerve damage to both back legs, collapse of his pelvis making toileting very difficult and damage to the skin overlying his pelvis. Surgery was performed in late December to realign and stabilise his pelvis and to open up his pelvic canal to help with toileting. The surgery went very well and the bones of the pelvis were re aligned; we then had to wait to see if his nerve damage would improve. The nerve function in his right back leg improved rapidly and he was soon able to walk on this leg. The back left leg was different and Enzo walked by dragging this leg. Although we were pleased that Enzo was again mobile and comfortable, we were concerned that things wouldn’t improve further. Enzo came back in to see us approximately 4 months following the surgery, we were all amazed to see how happy he looked and how active he had become; he had made a full and complete recovery and there were no signs of nerve damage! His owners commented: Enzo is now 95% of his former self which I think in itself is a miracle compared to where we were at Christmas. He was confined to a cage and couldn’t use his left back leg properly, now he’s climbing trees and fences as if nothing had happened! We can’t thank Rob and the team enough, they were amazing from start to finish and we owe you all a debt of gratitude. Paul and Andrea

Dezzie came back to see us today for a final check up following his stifle surgery. It was so lovely for us to see him again, he is doing really well and will be gradually starting to return to his normal exercise levels over the coming weeks. Well done to Dezzie and of course his owners for their dedication! Weighing in at almost 80 kg Dezzie is huge: thankfully he is a gentle giant and loves people, he is also a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog and visits local nursing homes. Dezzie we think you are very handsome!!!

Who remembers the gorgeous Marlie?! He came in to see us again recently about 3 weeks following surgery. His mum had been very vigilant in following the post operative exercise plan and we were delighted to see how brilliantly he was moving. Marlie clearly wanted to get going again and showed no signs of limping or discomfort Marlie needs to carry on with rest for a further 4 weeks before coming back to see us again for radiographs to be taken to assess bone healing We all look forward to seeing how he progresses…Keep up the good work Marlie !

Meet the team; finally Rob Rayward... I moved to Eastbourne about 7 years ago to enjoy a more outdoor life and it hasn't disappointed. I love to be in, on or by the water whether walking on the downs, having cups of tea on the beach or paddle boarding. I love the freedom of swimming in the sea although in colder months I tend to head to the pool for my fix of water therapy. I have recently taken up running again too so you may see me hobbling along the sea front as I try to goad my body into action!

Patient update: Marlie returned to us this week as unfortunately there was a complication with his recovery following surgery to the right elbow. A CT scan showed that some of the metal work had broken in this elbow joint. We took this opportunity to have his other elbow joint scanned too and we found that there was a large crack in this elbow. This crack was at risk of developing into a full-blown fracture so we decided to operate on both elbow joints at the same time. We placed a large screw across his left elbow joint and we replaced the broken metalwork in his right elbow at the same time. Marlie came through these operations very well and went home on the following day. We wish him a smooth and uneventful recovery and are pleased that we have been able to protect his other weakened elbow; we think that one broken leg is more than enough for one dog to handle…

This is the lovely Buka, an 11 month old Kelpi crossbreed who spent the day with us today. Buka underwent surgery for the removal of a cartilage flap from his shoulder joint which was making him lame. The radiograph shows the bone crater where the cartilage flap was sitting . This flap has been removed and we expect the crater to be filled by scar cartilage over the coming weeks and months - once formed he should be much more comfortable and able to run around again.

Yesterday this lovely older chap Archie came back to see us for follow up x-rays after cruciate surgery. He has had this surgery performed on both of his hind legs. Archie is doing very well and his owners report he has a new lease of life and is acting like a puppy again! It was lovely to see him and we are so pleased with his progress.
